7 Netflix Series Your Husband Will Watch With You

Written by Lindsay Ropella

If you haven’t already figured it out, Eric and I watch a lot of Netflix. Especially during the winter, we spent many cold nights posted up on the couch running through various tv series. One of our biggest disagreements though is always which tv show to start next after our previous one ends. Eric always wants to watch something action-packed (often involving guts and gore), and I always want to watch some girly drama with a good amount of humor mixed in.

I don’t totally hate what Eric wants to watch and he doesn’t completely despise my shows, but in the past we would often have to take turns compromising on what we wanted to watch. Lately though it seems like we’ve really come across quite a few series on Netflix that we both really enjoy watching. Instead of keeping this marital gold-mine to myself, I thought I’d share our 7 favorite Netflix series here today. If there are any of these you and your hubby have yet to see, make sure you add them to your list!

Today I'm sharing 7 Netflix series your husband will watch with you. Both my husband and I are equally invested in all of these tv shows on Netflix!

{Click on any series title to read a description of the show over on Netflix}

1. Parenthood || Ah, Parenthood. I deeply regret sharing that Eric and I never watched this show when it actually aired. I think we just didn’t start it from the beginning, and once we decided we wanted to watch it the show was too many seasons in and we didn’t want to attempt to try to catch up. Well, I’m please to say that this is easily mine and Eric’s newest favorite series. We watched the first 5 seasons in less than a month and are chomping at the bit for the final season to come out on Netflix. If you haven’t seen this one yet, start watching it TONIGHT!

2. Breaking Bad || Eric and my brother had to convince me to watch this one. I was pretty hesitant just hearing a bit of what it was about, but I finally gave in. I will admit that it took about 3 or 4 episodes for me to get into the show, but once I did I was hooked! There was enough family drama and emotion for me to get into it and enough action and “bad guy” debacles to keep the hubby entertained.

3. Lost || This show is nothing short of amazing. Jam packed with danger, suspense, mystery, action, and emotional drama, neither you nor your husband will be able to stop watching this one.

4. Witches of East End || On first glance you wouldn’t think this show would be of much interest to guys, but Eric and I really love it. It’s a touch dark and super suspenseful and just overall a really fun show to watch.

5. Pretty Little Liars || Okay, I’m sure this series is not one of the first that comes to mind when you think about shows your husband will also enjoy, but Eric sincerely looks forward to watching this one with me. He may be a little embarrassed for me to be sharing this, but over the past few seasons he’s gotten really into figuring out who “A” is with me. And really, who wouldn’t? This show is basically one long mystery, and every time you think you’ve solved it, it completely blows your mind and changes on you. If your guy isn’t watching this one with you yet, see if he would be willing to give it a try!

6. Scandal || This show. Oh. My. Gosh. Eric and I were completely obsessed with this one after only half an episode. This is one of those shows were it seems like something crazy happens every 10 minutes. You better not even think about running to the bathroom during this show or you will be completely lost. You can catch this show live Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. on ABC, but if you haven’t been watching it make sure you start from the beginning or you will be missing a lot!

7. How I Met Your Mother || This is the feel-good show to top all others. I’m sure 90% of you have already laughed, cried, and rejoiced with this beloved group of friends, but if not, this show needs to make it to the top of your watch list immediately! Eric and I were both equally invested in this show, and we have so many great memories watching this together over the years.

So tell me — what tv shows do you and your husband love watching together? Let me know in the comments below!

I was obsessed with Parenthood and my fiance would never watch it with me, so I’m jealous of you guys! We’ve enjoyed watching House of Cards together and we might start on Bloodline soon. Not on Netflix but we have also enjoyed Game of Thrones together.

    • Lindsay Ropella

Ohh those are good ones too! Eric and I enjoyed House of Cards (him a bit more than me I think) and were just talking about starting Bloodline the other day actually. If you guys start it let me know what you think! Did your fiance watch Parenthood and just not like it, or did he not see it? We are so excited for the final season to come out on Netflix!

To be fair, I started watching it just on my own, but there were many times when I would watch it when he was around, enough so that he was able to know what was going on enough to make fun of the characters.

        • Lindsay Ropella

haha that sounds like my husband. :) Well who knows, maybe he will warm up to it someday ;)

  • Amanda

Breaking Bad for sure!! I’ve also been surprised at how much both us are loving Sons of Anarchy.

    • Lindsay Ropella

SUCH a good one! Oh really, Sons of Anarchy? I’ve seen previews for it here and there and was a bit intrigued, but we never have actually watched an episode together. Will definitely have to add it to our list and give it a try!

  • Amberly

We’re watching Prison Break right now :) We’ve also really enjoyed Psych and Scrubs. I need to get Joe into Parenthood.

    • Lindsay Ropella

Haha Scrubs, yes. :) I’ve actually caught only an episode or two of Psych on TV and absolutely loved it! Would love to watch the whole series. Can you watch it online? And I definitely need to watch Prision Break — Eric watched it when it was on TV and absolutely LOVED it! I have yet to start it but I’ve really been wanting to!

      • Amberly

Unless Netflix removed it, I think you can watch all but maybe the last season of Psych on Netflix :) We’ve watched it twice now all the way through and we bought the series on DVD when it came out for Joe’s Christmas present :)

        • Lindsay Ropella

Oh no way! How did I miss that? :) Definitely going to start it up very soon!

  • Sarah K.

Parenthood is my all time favorite show and the best thing that was on TV. So many emotions…so real. LOVE it. Other series are ones you’ve probably already seen but I am totally hooked on Blacklist, Daredevil, and Jericho. All of them are incredible and I can’t wait for the next one. Also, The Flash! Might sound corny but it is so well done and I love, love, love it as well. :)

    • Lindsay Ropella

Oh EXACTLY. That’s why we love it so much. :) I actually haven’t seen ANY of those, I’m so excited to check them out! Well, we really want to start Blacklist soon, but the other two I’m not even very family with. Thanks so much for the recommendations, we love finding new shows! xo

We’ve watched Scandal and Breaking Bad all the way through. He’s seen all of How I Met Your Mother. I LOVEEE that PLL made the list, I am addicted and he thinks I am crazy.. I cannot wait to show him this list and make him an addict as well!

Thanks for the tip on Parenthood, will do! We JUST decided to dig into Entourage. My recommendation to you that we JUST finished last night is Parks and Recreation. Hilarious!!

    • Lindsay Ropella

I’ve caught a few episodes of Parks and Rec here and there and thought it was absolutely hysterical!! I love her and that type of humor, so I’m dying to watch it all the way through very soon. I’m glad to hear you recommend it as well! LOL, you will have to let me know how the PLL recommendation goes over. Eric would be so embarrassed if he knew I shared he enjoys that show, but he totally does. ;)

  • Michaela Harris

My husband was NOT a fan of Parenthood unfortunately! We’ve watched Seinfeld, cooking shows like Master Chef, Community, Parks & Rec.

    • Lindsay Ropella

Aw man! I love that show. That’s okay that can just be one of the ones you watch when he’s doing boring guy stuff, or at least that’s how I do it. ;) Parks and Rec is SO next on my list!!
